Dr Caroline Mathias is a specialist gynaecologist with expertise in the comprehensive management of complex benign gynaecological conditions, particularly adenomyosis, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and adnexal pathology, with advanced training in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She provides care for women across all stages of life, with a strong focus on evidence-based, individualised management and a multidisciplinary approach to pelvic pain.
Dr Mathias undertook her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training across two countries, gaining broad experience in both tertiary and regional centres. In Australia, she completed significant components of her training at Nepean Hospital, where she was exposed to high-volume obstetrics and acute gynaecology. She further consolidated her skills through advanced gynaecology training and fellowship experience, with a focus on minimally invasive surgery and complex pelvic pathology.
She is currently in private practice at Nepean Private Hospital and Norwest Private Hospital, and holds public appointments at Nepean Hospital and Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital. She works closely within multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
Dr Mathias has further strengthened her expertise through international visiting fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Arizona, and IFEM Endo in Bordeaux, gaining experience in complex pelvic surgery and multidisciplinary endometriosis care. She has a strong academic and research focus, including involvement in clinical trials, consensus-based studies, and research on patient-reported outcome measures. She has been awarded a competitive grant for her work on the U-ROC trial.
Passionate about education, Dr Mathias is actively involved in teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and contributes to training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. She founded the Nepean Gynaecology Laparoscopic Workshop, which is held annually. She is known for her approachable, patient-centred manner and clear communication, and values collaborative care with her patients and general practitioners.
